Background
Confucius Institute is a non-profit educational institution that devotes itself in satisfying the needs of people around the world who desire to learn Chinese language, to enhance people’s understanding about Chinese language and culture as well as to reinforce the educational and cultural exchange between China and other countries. By the end of 2019, 550 Confucius Institutes and 1,172 Confucius classrooms had been established in 162 countries and regions around the world.
Confucius Institute at University College of Technology Sarawak was funded by Confucius Institute Headquarters of China. Confucius Institute Headquarters of China appointed North China University of Water Resources and Electric Power to establish the Confucius Institute in partnership with University College of Technology Sarawak as the Chinese executive institution. It was officially inaugurated on 10 December 2020. It was the fifth Confucius Institute in Malaysia and the second Confucius Institute in East Malaysia.
Co-built by North China University of Water Resources and Electric Power (NCWU), University College of Technology Sarawak (UCTS) and several large-scale hydropower enterprises at home and abroad, Confucius Institute at UCTS adopts the “Chinese Language +” model and offers relevant Chinese language courses, like customized courses, training courses and interest courses etc. A variety of colorful cultural activities will also be held to enrich the learning life.
