On 10 December 2020, Confucius Institute at University College of Technology Sarawak was finally established with everyone’s efforts. This is the first Confucius Institute in Sarawak which marking a new milestone in education cooperation between Sarawak and China, and also conducive to enhance cultural integration between Sarawak and China.

The inauguration ceremony of Confucius Institute at UCTS was originally scheduled to be held in April 2020, but it was postponed due to the Covid-19 outbreak. As the inauguration ceremony was held online, the education partners from UCTS and China could witness this historic moment together, which is of great significance.

The establishment of Confucius Institute at UCTS was not an easy path. The successful establishment of Confucius Institute is mainly contributed by Chinese International Education Foundation, Education Department of Henan Province, North China University of Water Resources and Electric Power, the former and current Consulate-General of The People’s Republic of China in Kuching, and other relevant organizations for their support.

With the establishment of Confucius Institute, Confucius Institute at University College of Technology Sarawak will perform as a significant platform for mutual exchanges between Henan and Sarawak and it will also serve as an important gateway to deepen the understanding and promote the friendly cooperation between the Chinese people and the Malaysian people.
